Carl Johnson came to Woodmont Church in July, 2007. He is a 1970 graduate of UNC Chapel Hill, with a degree in Business Administration, and a 1974 graduate of Duke University, with a Master of Divinity. He has been serving United Methodist Churches in the Western North Carolina Conference since 1974.

Carl and his wife, Donna, have three girls. Katherine, who lives in Greensboro, works in customer service for Ralph Lauren in High Point. Annie, who was just married to Alex Council, lives in Charlotte, and works in Human Resources for Pike Energy. Jenny also lives in Charlotte, and is a manager with Abercrombie and Fitch. All three of the Johnson girls are graduates of Greensboro College.

In his time away from church responsibilities, Carl and Donna enjoy spending quiet time at home, traveling and reading. Carl is also an avid bicyclist and backpacker.
